1-to-1 lessons take place in person near Henley-on-Thames, or online for those too far to travel. We also offer a hybrid approach if you'd like to travel for a couple of sessions and do the rest of the programme online – it is designed to be as flexible as you need.

We focus on building highly motivated behaviours using food, toys/play and breed specific fulfilment, and teaching you how to become your dog's favourite teammate. We take a fair, balanced approach, including ethical, modern use of training tools such as slip leads and e-collars when appropriate, and teaching your dog to understand what a fair "no" means so they have complete clarity and their training holds up in the real world around real distractions. We do not use outdated compulsion-based methods that make your dog fearful or shut them down. Training isn't one-size-fits-all, but we advocate for modern, ethical use of training tools including e-collars for those dogs who would benefit. Modern, low level e-collar conditioning does not cause fear, pain, or involve any kind of "shock" to your dog. It simply provides additional communication when off lead to help build a reliable recall even when that prey-drive kicks in.

The Spaniel Method is designed specifically with spaniels and spaniel crosses in mind, training in a way that fulfils and works with their genetic instincts. However, it is a tailored program that we are also able to adapt to owners of other working gundog breeds with intense drive such as vizslas, pointers and retrievers.
